How to become a Basketball Queensland Coach

As a basketball coach in Queensland, you will often form the lasting impression that participants and their families have with our game.
Basketball throughout the state relies on dedicated volunteers to teach people how to play the game and compete.

We recognize there is a need to support these volunteers with high quality, consistent, accessible education, training and guidance. The volunteer coach role is fundamental to the development of players, coaches, pathways in sport and of the game of basketball in Australia.

Whether you are coaching a team of beginners who are just learning to love the sport, a school, club or representative team or even an NBL1 North team, we hope you enjoy coaching Everyone’s Game.

Ongoing Learning support from Basketball Queensland

Once you have started coaching you will most likely seek some support and further learning and BQ offers three forms of learning support for all registered coaches

Formal Learning Opportunities
Formal accreditation courses and qualifications: These courses follow on from the online Community coach course and certification and are more basketball specific.

1. Club Coach Course (LEVEL 1)

2. Association Coach Course (LEVEL 2)

This is a more intense and expansive course for Rep level coaches and consists of registration or association nomination and both on line learning modules and practical on court activities over a one-and-a-half-day period.

Informal Learning Opportunities
Basketball Queensland also offers a series of informal learning clinics such as sessions on the Coaches weekend in November each year or the New Year’s coaches’ clinic. Additionally, the are also periodic regional clinics. These are all listed on the BQ calendar.

Self Learning Opportunities

The basketball Queensland coaches App is your gateway to Drills, videos, resources, BQ Style of Play documents and videos & other free modules for learning. All at the top of your finger on your phone or laptop

Please note that for more advanced coaching positions, including any rep coaching positions additional accreditations are required - for more information:
