ABOUT
BQ, in conjunction with Queensland School Sport stages the Champion Basketball School of Queensland (CBSQ) tournaments each year.
With the Open event originating in 1974 the event attracts a great deal of interest from secondary schools across the state each year with over 120 boys and girls teams competing across several open-age divisions.
The winning team from each Boys & Girls Open Championship Division gains automatic entry into Basketball Australia’s Australian Schools Championships held each year in December.
Final positions in the tournament dictate promotion and relegation, as well as wildcard opportunities. From 2020, CBSQ will be open to both automatic qualifiers, as well as wildcard applications, allowing schools who have previously been relegated, or who have not previously competed to apply for a position in the competition.
In 2020 BQ introduced two further events; the CBSQ Junior Secondary and CBSQ Primary aimed at providing opportunities for schools to participate in the younger age groups, with Junior Secondary splitting into two competitions (Jnr Secondary and Sophomore) in 2022.
Nominations for all 2022 CBSQ tournaments are now closed.
