Track the game as a Scoretable official
Scoretable officials work in partnership with referees to officiate the match, and to communicate the progress of the game, operating the game and shot clock, as well as keeping record of scores, fouls and timeouts.
Queensland Scoretable provides education, training, development and guidance for scoretable roles and all levels of skill (grass roots through to the elite). With basketball competitions being held throughout the state all year round, opportunities are always available for those looking to become a scoretable official. Scoretable courses are run throughout the year, with development pathways in place to allow career progression from junior club basketball to NBL1, right through to the international level of officiating. This development strategy is in line with Basketball Australia’s officials’ development framework.

Scoretable official advancement courses
Plot your way from officiating local games to getting accreditation by Basketball Australia’s National Technical Officials Commission.
To receive your Level 1 qualification, you must successfully complete a half day course and exam. Officials are also evaluated in each of the score-table roles during a game. When the official has been successfully evaluated in each role twice, they can nominate to qualify for Level 2 accreditation.
A Level 2 Official has built upon their knowledge and experience and is qualified to work in all positions (including Chair). To obtain a Level 2 qualification, you must successfully attend a one-day course and exam. Officials also need to be evaluated in each of the scoretable roles on two occasions before considered for a Level 2 qualification.
At this level, a scoretable official is taking on serious responsibilities: QSL & NBL1 finals, NBL & WNBL Competitions, National Championships and International tournaments.
A Level 3 official is expected to have demonstrated a thorough understanding of all the rules, interpretations and ancillary guidelines that dictate how the game is administered. A Level 3 scorer must be able to quickly identify which Article of the FIBA Rules of Basketball is relevant and which interpretation has been applied. They need to ensure there is a consistent application of the rules. Qualification at this level involves successful involvement in a full-day course, including a rule book based exam, and successful evaluation in each scoretable position for the practical aspects.
Level 4 officials are accredited by Basketball Australia’s National Technical Officials Commission following successful performance at a fully sactioned FIBA tournament (international games).

Frequently asked questions
How do I get started?
To become a statistician, you must be in Year 12 or above and have a basic knowledge of basketball. Some experience with computers is also advantageous. Prospective statisticians start their journey as a Trainee statistician capturing stats on live games. After you complete your traineeship on live games (approx. 10 games) you are ready to complete the Level 1 statistics assessment.
What computer software do statisticians use?
The approved statistics software is called Synergy Stats. Synergy Stats App is a web-based statistics application that is used to capture live events by qualified statisticians during the match. The app sends the live events data seamlessly to Synergy’s Competition Admin tool allowing leagues to use the data collected to power websites and apps with statistics, standings, leaders, schedules, and live scores.
