Luke McGuire appointed as new BQ High Performance Manager

Basketball Queensland is pleased to announce the appointment of Luke McGuire to the role of High Performance Manager.

Luke brings a wealth of experience to the position, having worked in player and coach development for over six years. He joined BQ as Coach Development Manager in 2021, after a two-year stint leading regional development programs with Basketball WA, and headed the ASPIRE Program and Coach Accreditation courses across Queensland.

His expertise quickly expanded to include player development as well, and was named as BQ’s Player and Coach Development Manager from early 2022. Luke spearheaded the addition of High Performance early identification programs, such as Future Development Program (FDP), QLD Emerging, and Next Gen, showcasing his commitment to building a comprehensive development pathway for BQ athletes.

“Luke’s success in growing our player and coach development programs has been remarkable,” said General Manager of Basketball Operations, Todd Flahey.

“His dedication and innovative approach have set a high standard, and we are thrilled to see him bring this same energy and expertise to his new role.”

Luke’s passion for basketball in Queensland is evident.

“I am excited to transition into the role of High Performance Manager,” he shared. “I have a strong passion for athletes and coaches in Queensland and want to continue to provide opportunities for their development and success.”

“We have a great pathway and blueprint in Queensland and I look forward to adding to this to help us move forward in the High Performance space.”

With his proven track record and unwavering enthusiasm, Luke is poised to make a significant impact on the future of high performance basketball in Queensland.

He stepped into his new position on Thursday 18 July, 2024.
