Basketball Queensland Unveils New QHoops Program
Basketball Queensland is excited to announce the launch of the QHoops program - a new initiative in collaboration with the State Government, designed to introduce the sport of basketball to children aged 2-5 years old.
QHoops will be held at basketball association hubs across the state in 2025, offering a fun and engaging way for youngsters to develop their fundamental motor skills and discover a love for the game.
Each QHoops Hub will run for six weeks during a designated term, with one 35-minute session held each week. These sessions will consist of basketball-related games and activities, specifically designed to introduce children to basic skills like shooting, dribbling, and passing, while fostering overall physical literacy.
All necessary equipment will be provided by BQ, including balls and mini hoops. Additionally, registration fees will include a Size 3, QHoops-branded mini basketball for every participant to take home and continue to work on their skills with.
QHoops aims to provide an opportunity for parents and their young children to bond over a shared activity. The program is a great way to introduce juniors to the world of basketball in a welcoming and encouraging environment, potentially sparking a lifelong passion for the sport and launching them into club and representative pathways.
The first QHoops Hub of 2025 will be held during Term 1 at Ipswich Basketball. Specific dates and times will be announced soon, with registrations opening in the new year. Information will be shared accordingly via official BQ social media channels.
For those eager to give QHoops a go before registrations open, BQ will be hosting "Come and Try" sessions on Tuesday 17th December 2024 at the Logan Metro Sports & Events Centre next week, during the upcoming QJCC tournament.
