Keely Russell joins BQ as School Competition Coordinator
Basketball Queensland is excited to introduce Keely Russell as the new Schools Competitions Coordinator.
Having previously completed an internship with Basketball Queensland in the competitions department earlier this year, Keely has become a familiar and valued member of the BQ team.
Keely expressed her enthusiasm for joining the team in a full-time capacity after the schools' position became available a few months ago. Currently pursuing a Bachelor of Sport Development and Business with a major in Sport Management, her academic background aligns with her passion for working with grassroots athletes, making this an opportunity she couldn’t resist.
"When I started that degree, my goal was to work with grassroots athletes and keep them engaged in sports," said Russell.
In her new role as Schools' Competitions Coordinator, she looks forward to a more hands-on approach in running programs such as CBSQ, Next Stars and iCan.
"The school environment, particularly sports in schools, is vital. It provides more opportunities for students to get involved in basketball and potentially join a club,” said Russell.
Bringing a fresh perspective from her experience in grassroots Netball, Keely aims to provide both regional and local players with more opportunities to play basketball.
“My goal is to build strong relationships with schools throughout Queensland and help the game of basketball flourish within those systems,” said Russel.
Keely officially commenced her role in July, and we look forward to the positive impact she will bring to our schools' competitions.
